The fascinating history of South TyrolThe Dietenheim Folklore Museum

The Dietenheim Folklore Museum was founded in 1976 and inaugurated in 1980. Extending over about three hectares, it is the oldest provincial museum in South Tyrol. Between 1977 and 1993, about two dozen historical buildings from various South Tyrolean valleys were relocated here.

In the outdoor area, you can view more than twenty historical buildings – from farmhouses, utility buildings, all the way up to workshops dating back to the 15th to the 19th centuries – a living testament to rural life in former times. Visitors can see for themselves how farmers, tradesmen, and farm hands lived and worked back then.

Farm animals and pets gambol and frolic on the fields between the buildings. Visitors can see fields under cultivation, gardens, window box flowers, and ancient fruit trees. All in all, the museum presents an authentic example of the way of life of that era.
